Job Title: Toddler Classroom Assistant

Organization and Program Description:

Sunny Hollow Montessori is an established, AMI-accredited school in St. Paul, Minnesota. The school serves Toddler through Junior High students. 

Job Purpose: The Toddler Assistant supports the Lead Guide in preparing and maintaining a peaceful Montessori environment for children ages 16 months to 33 months, attending to children’s physical needs and safety while modeling positive interactions and communications with adults and children. The Toddler program is a 12 month program. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

Care and Maintenance of the Montessori Toddler Environment: 

• Clean the environment
• Refill supplies daily
• Properly store supplies
• Make and repair materials
• Refresh classroom materials seasonally, at the discretion of the Guide
• Ensure materials are arranged correctly daily

Connection to the Children:

• Supervise the classroom as directed by the Lead Guide, protecting the peace, safety, and physical wellbeing of children at work, through Global Awareness of the classroom
• Respond to and report all accidents and incidents according to training
  • Assess and prioritize how and when to intervene with children
  • Assist children by offering modeling, choices, and redirection
• Assist children with their work, at the direction of the Lead Guide
• Supervise and support nap time
• Facilitate transitions within the day
• Assist children in the bathroom, as needed
• Observe the children at work
• Support children’s snack routines

Connection to Montessori Community of Practice:

• Assist, at the direction of Lead Guide, with Family Communications
• Initiate professional development opportunities to meet total hours required by DHS
• Attend staff meetings as scheduled
• Demonstrate a commitment to anti-racist and anti-bias learning and action
• Participate in special community events as outlined on the calendar and in the Employee Handbook
• At the direction of the Lead Guide, coordinate grocery, laundry, and conference reminders to families

Required Qualifications:

• Adaptable and eager to implement Montessori philosophy
• Experience working with Toddler children
• Able to lift up to 40 pounds
• Background clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• AMI Assistants Course Training
• 1-3 years experience in a Montessori classroom
